Simone Stephens
Simone Stephens has been a black, queer, youth worker and organizer for ten plus years. In addition to being a member of Black Lives Matter PDX, most recently, she was a Youth Care Counselor for Boys and Girls Aid Society of Oregon, working with pre-adjudicated and foster youth experiencing high levels of trauma. In addition, she has worked with QTQCrew, a safe space for queer and trans youth via Black PFLAAG and the Q Center. Simone also began a sustainable meal program for Teen Force Youth through Matt Dishman Community Center and hosted the weekly Funky Fresh Femmes womanist empowerment group. SImone has been working towards a BA in Social Work for the past few years in hopes of one day beginning her own trauma-informed youth program. Simone loves working with children and is hopeful that she and her partner will begin their own family soon enough. Of working at Airplane Cottage she says she is most excited for the opportunity to work with younger kiddos and to witness them creating their own revolutionary narratives one tied shoelace at a time.
