Airplane Cottage is more than a preschool. We are a community.
Our teachers provide quality care for young people ages 2-6. Located directly across from Kenton Park in Portland, OR, we believe children learn best through play. Children are provided an engaging environment to build relationships, make art, create, and be outdoors.
Our curriculum focuses on emotional literacy-- the ability to identify big feelings and communicate those feelings with others. Through what we call "meetings," teachers guide the children in ongoing conversations about community agreements. What does it mean to be kind? To be safe? To care for one another? About Airplane Cottage School: Our Mission Statement Airplane Cottage School will provide quality education for young people. By providing an engaging environment, children will learn best through play. Our mission is to provide children with a set of tools to identify their feelings and communicate with their peers. We believe this is the first step to creating an equitable community. |
Observe. Reflect. Document. Repeat. Our teachers watch children's behaviors closely to observe their interests, communication strategies, and developing skills. After reflecting on our observations, an evolving curriculum is built and shared with parents. We ask ourselves: How are we implementing a culture of kindness, consent, and respect? How can we encourage wonder and appreciation of the world around us?

Caring and Qualified Teachers
We consider our teachers to be guides rather than enforcers of rules. When an individual child needs a little extra guidance, our staff works with parents to create a support plan.
Each teacher is CPR/1st Aid certified and enrolled in the Oregon Registry. We are dedicated to the pursuit of learning and commit ourselves to best practices within Early Childhood Education. |
